We are offering the opportunity for individuals
to actually participate in harvesting the
2003 Pinot Noir crop. Our initial estimate
is about 2 tons of grapes. Depending on the number
of pickers, this is likely to take the good
part of a day, so we will start between 8
and 9 AM. Fewer bodies, more work, so bring
a friend. Enemies also accepted. We anticipate
one or two trips to the winery with the grapes
loaded in bins.
After harvest we will be having a cookout at the vineyard--burgers and brats kind of fare. Very casual. (Veggie burgers on request when you make your reservation).
One issue to be aware of is the timing of
harvest. A lot of things have to come together
before we make the decision to pick. Sugars
and acids need to be at certain levels. Also,
we spend a lot of time looking at the sky,
as rain can actually decrease the sugar levels
(not good). As a result, advance notice of
the actual day of the event may be minimal,
perhaps only the day before. We appreciate
your being flexible! The usual range of dates
is between very late September and the middle
of October. We will try to harvest on a weekend,
but sometimes that just isn't possible.
We realize scheduling issues will result in some cancellations. This making a living sometimes gets in the way of things! If it sounds like we're making this up as we go along, you're on to us, but just can't see any other way to pull this off. No deposit or cancellation fees will apply.
Basic cost for The Harvest Experience will be $50, which includes harvest activity,
the cookout at our vineyard, and wine and
beer (yes, we like beer too!). To sign up
for this great day, email jragni@vineyardexperience.com or call us at (503) 472-0528.
